Design and Lighting Tips

Lighting comes in many forms. When designing your lighting, not only the look but also the application is important, as well as you control it.

INDIRECT LIGHT AND DAYLIGHT

tips

Indirect lighting and daylight are the best forms of lighting for our health and wellness. Glare must be managed to provide a visually comfortable space. There are several techniques, such frosted glass, window treatments, up lighting, etc., that can be helpful in managing glare.

RECESSED LIGHTS

Recessed lighting is best used for task orient areas, accent lighting and to help provide ambient light for the space. It should also not be what the eyes see. Lighting should allow us to see the space or task at hand, and not for it to be seen first.

DAY AND NIGHT

tips

At different times of the day and night, our bodies, eyes, and brain need different amounts of light. We also need to vary that amount of light when we perform activities or when we want to relax in the evening. This can be achieved by layering your lighting and having your light on dimmers.

COMFORT AND WORK WITH EASE

Comfort and working with ease are important for anyone. Stay away from putting one large light in the middle of the room. Add light around the perimeter of the area. This can help transform the comfort and workflow of any space dramatically.

ENHANCE THE BEAUTY

tips

Enhance the beauty of your space by looking for the room’s focal point and designing with light to draw the eyes’ attention to that pivotal point. When you use recessed lights to accent art and architectural features, select fixtures where the lamp is regressed to hide any stray light that would take away from your interior's design.

ENABLE PATH LIGHTING

When you wake up in the middle of the night for that bathroom or kitchen trip, light in your eyes can be blinding and, sometimes, jarring experience. Instead, light your path and consider putting lights in the toe kick space or even use lamp lights or wall lights without clear glass. Remember – manage that unnecessary glare, especially during those late-night snack trips.

BATHROOM LIGHTING

tips Bathroom lighting selection is very important for not only your ability to see well but also for comfortability of the space. Bath lighting includes a variety of lighting types – Vanity Lights, LED Mirrors, Vent Lights, and Recessed Lights are only a few examples. Paint color, mirrors and window placement all affect the comfort of your bathroom as well. Even these tiny details will renovate and refresh your bathroom.
